Has it been two weeks already? We are having the best time driving from State to State looking for hidden gems and small towns among the U.S. We have found some really neat places, and we can’t wait to see what else is in store for us! Here are some pictures to recap the week.
On Sunday, we packed a picnic lunch and boarded the Boone Scenic Railroad train in Boon, Iowa. You ride around town and eat lunch in one of the train cars. Beautiful view and a great way to spend an afternoon! They also offer dinner cars & dessert cars where food is provided. If you are ever in the area, we highly recommend! We drove for the rest of the day and stayed in Omaha, Nebraska near Old Market.
Monday, we drove into Vermillion, South Dakota and visited the National Music Museum.
Christopher was in heaven with all those guitars!
Tuesday, we visited the Laura Ingalls Wilder Homestead in De Smet, SD. I loved her books growing up, so this was a special treat for me.
Then we went and visited Waubay, SD where Christopher’s ancestors lived before moving to Virginia.
Wednesday we got on the Native American Scenic Byway and drove to Big Bend Dam. Then to Badlands National Park. What an incredible place!
Thursday we went to Mt Rushmore. It is absolutely amazing and so much grander in person than I could have ever imagined it to be.
Friday we went to Custer, SD to see the Crazy Horse Memorial. It is breathtaking, and the history behind it is really cool! Then we went to Custer State Park and did a little trail hiking and saw some Buffalo. Then we had dinner with Christopher’s cousins, Candance and Irina. A really great day! South Dakota is beautiful and COLD! Haha. We have enjoyed our time here and will hopefully come again someday!
Saturday we drove into Wyoming and visited Devils Tower. It’s so huge! We could see it 30 miles away on our way to it. Another incredible place to take a short trail hike.
Thank you all for following along on our journey! We will update you again next Saturday!
